Research on Internal Electromagnetic Pulse Phenomena.

Abstract

The primary objective of the study was the measurement of IEMP fields and IEMP-induced cable currents, as functions of gas pressure, in a large vacuum tank. The tank geometry was selected to minimize problems of predicting IEMP fields. Exposures took place at the HERMES facility. Measurements included electric and magnetic field maps, current induced on cables in the tank and the variations of these quantities with tank pressure. A second objective was the interpretation of the experimental results in view of available theoretical predictions of IEMP effects.
