A Real Time Interaction System for the Investigation of Dynamic Displays of Acoustic Signals.
Abstract
Experiments are reported which were designed to investigate human information processing with dynamic novel stimuli. In certain of the experiments, subjects had the opportunity to modify, on a real-time basis, certain of the information parameters of the stimuli. Several findings emerged. First performance with 'intensity' information appeared as good as or better than performance with 'amplitude' information. Second, when naive observers are given control over information parameters, performance tends to deteriorate when control options are utilized. However, when experienced observers are given such control, performance improves. (Modified author abstract)
