On The Constitutive Equations of Polar Elastic Dielectrics.

Abstract

The balance laws, jump conditions and the nonlinear constitutive equations are formulated for an elastic polar dielectric interacting with a quasi-static electric field, including the quadrupole polarizations. Thermodynamical and other constitutive restrictions are studied. The linearized field equations are employed to solve the problem of a spherical cavity in an infinite solid dielectric subject to a uniformly disturbed surface charge at the surface of the cavity.
