Magnetic Anisotropy of the Uranium Compounds UAsS and UAsSe,

Abstract

In constant magnetic fields of up to 12 kOe and in pulsed magnetic fields of up to 200 kOe measurements were taken of the magnetization of UAsS and UAsSe compounds along various crystallographic directions. These compounds are ferromagnetic at low temperatures and display very high magnetic anisotropy. The large magnetic anisotropy of UAsS and UAsSe is qualitatively explained within the framework of crystal field theory. (Modified author abstract)
