An Investigation of the Debye-Waller Factor near the Temperature of the Phase Transition of the First Kind in Cobalt,

Abstract

Values of the Debye-Waller factor f' in cobalt containing 7% by weight Fe, are calculated on the basis of nuclear gamma-resonance spectra for temperatures between 20 and 250C. A considerable decrease of f' is observed near the temperature of the beginning of the phase transition of the first kind Ms = 140 plus or minus 5 degrees C. It is suggested that this effect may be due to a decrease of the lattice force constants near Ms.
