Current Trends in Data Management System Architecture

Abstract

72MESDTR-72-157Presented at the USAF Academy Worldwide Data Management Symposium on Design and Evaluation, Air Force Academy, Colo., 9-11 Dec 71.*Data management, *Data processing, Systems engineering, Reviews File structures Early data management system architecture is examined and compared with that of current systems. This comparison reveals a trend toward placing a number of basic data management system components within the modern operating system. A continuation of this trend is postulated and a number of specific examples of areas where the trend is likely to continue are given. The advantages of a continuation of this trend are described in terms of both the ease of building new data management systems and the increased compatibility of such systems with other data processing tools.
