Further Aspects of a Semi-Markov Storage Model,

Abstract

In the paper a storage model whose inputs and demands form a sequence of random variables which proceeds according to a semi-Markov process is studied. In another paper the authors presented exact solutions for the content, Z(t), of the storage system at a time t > or = 0 in the special case of exponential distributions for each input and each demand. In the present paper is studied the exact results for the distribution of the time until first emptiness of the storage system for the special case of exponential distributions for each input and demand. In addition the special case in which the distribution of each input is general, while the distribution function of each demand is negative exponential is studied. In that case exact results for the distribution of Z(t) and for the distribution of time to first emptiness are given. (Author)
