Biological Barrier against Pests,
Abstract
Methods of controlling harmful cotton pests in northern Afghanistan and southern Tadzhikistan are discussed. The method of using natural enemies of pests for control is compared with the use of pesticides. The effects of both methods on the ecology of the cotton field are shown. Experiments show that reducing the number of pesticide treatments results in an increase in the cotton harvest. It is concluded that biological control using predators and parasites is more effective than use of the pesticides, which destroys both pests and their natural enemies. (Author)
