Application of Cost-Effectiveness Studies to System Safety Engineering Problems.

Abstract

The report develops two methods of applying cost-effectiveness analysis to system safety engineering problems: Failure mode analysis using the results of fault tree analysis. A method of finding estimates of accident costs for future accidents is also derived here to provide the necessary cost figures. It is concluded that cost-effectiveness analysis can be a very useful tool in safety engineering.
