A Computer Program for the Calculations and Comparisons of Diversity Indices in Biological Population Samples.

Abstract

Diversity indices are used by biologists to characterize sample distributions of species in an ecosystem. Applications of information theory, the Simpson index, and the McIntosh index of species diversity in biological collections are reviewed. A computer program is developed to calculate each measure for the relative abundance of species present in the community. (Author)
