Evaluation of a Liquid Mercury Flowmeter for Use with Ion Thrusters.

Abstract

The development and performance of a promising liquid mercury flowmeter, based on a thermal operating principle are described. The sensitivity, in terms of differential temperature change as a function of mass flow rate, was measured to be 18C/(mg/s), with good linearity. Comparison with theory shows good agreement and also indicates areas where further development could lead to a substantially higher performance. (Author)
