The Effects of Material Properties on Materials Handling Processes

Abstract

In order to better understand the fundamental aspects of a belt conveyor materials handling system with closed circulation was constructed. The evaluation and the measure of its performance based on various factors of the system was made using a statistical experimental design approach. Numerous problems were encountered, particularly at the material transfer points in the system. These problems and their solutions are detailed in this report. Based on several tests, it was observed that the type of material being conveyed had a significant effect. On the other hand, the equipment variables proved to be relatively insignificant for the range of variables considered.
