Experimental Reel Response System for High Performance Simplified, Aerial Refueling Store.

Abstract

The report presents the results of a program to verify the feasibility of innovations to a high performance aerial refueling store designed under a previous contract. Operational tests of an experimental hose reel assembly and control system demonstrated the simplicity of system operation and control. The test program demonstrated that the hydrostatic transmission and controls could achieve the desired hose extension, response and retraction accelerations and velocities, and that the hose could be wound onto a 17-inch diameter reel positioned with its axis parallel to the store centerline.
