The Image of an Ellipsoid Under a Dimension-Reducing Linear Transformation.
Abstract
The report consists of a proof that a six-dimensional ellipsoid is mapped onto a two-dimensional ellipse by any linear transformation with the appropriate domain and range spaces. The equation of the resulting ellipse is exhibited and the method of determining the equation can be extended to any other dimensions of domain and range spaces desired. If the ellipsoid in the domain is a probability ellipsoid, the probability associated with the image ellipsoid is also discussed. (Author)
