Research Studies on Laser Harmonic Generation.

Abstract

The past year work has been concentrated on the construction of a high power Nd:YAG laser and generation of vacuum ultraviolet and soft x-ray radiation using harmonic techniques. The authors have successfully constructed and evaluated a laser system that yields a single 25 psec pulse with a peak power of about 5 x 10 to the 8th power watts, demonstrated the technique of generation of vacuum ultraviolet radiation in phase-matched mixtures of inert gases, and have demonstrated, for the first time, stimulated emission in multiple photon-pumped Xe and Ar excimers, leading to possibilities of broad band and tunable vacuum ultraviolet radiation.
