Tactical Tropo Evaluation Criteria.

Abstract

ICHANNEL COMMUNICATIONS, Simulators, Multiplexing, Frequency modulation, Distortion, IntermodulationAN/MRC-98A study has been made of the use of a dynamic troposcatter channel simulator as a means of evaluating FDM/FM troposcatter radio equipment. A quadruple diversity simulator was built, and both laboratory and link tests were performed. It is shown that by using the simulator the effects of receiver noise, received power level, path dispersion, modulation parameters, diversity combiners, and radio equipment limitations can be separated and evaluated individually. Measured and theoretically predicted values of intermodulation noise are found to be in good agreement. It is concluded that a simple channel simulator provides a realistic and effective means of evaluating FDM/FM troposcatter radio equipment. (Author)
