A Simple Computer Program for Storage and Retrieval of Accident Reports.

Abstract

The Munitions Accident Report File Program was developed as a simple and comparatively efficient means of storing and correlating data from USAF Munitions Accident/Incident Reports. Utilization of a standard information management system program would be inefficient and expensive. The Accident Report Program was designed around the concept that a munitions accident can be described by a set of parameters that represents the main informative items of the accident. Parameterization of the accident reports allows a set of characteristic parameters and a short narrative of the accident to be easily stored on a computer tape. Masking is the means for retrieving those accident reports meeting the single or multiple parameter criteria that are of particular interest. Combining parameterization, masking, unlimited length of the accident narrative and date bounding results in a simple and flexible program. (Author)
