Comparison of Three Shooting Techniques in the Daylight Employment of Tracer.
Abstract
ORMANCE(Human), Human factors engineering, Ammunition, Military training, Analysis of varianceM-14 guns(Cal .30)Different techniques of firing tracer ammunition from the M14 rifle were taught to two randomly selected groups of infantrymen with good eyesight and no combat experience. A third group was made aware of both methods but was encouraged to follow whatever method seemed best to them. Each subject fired 30 rounds of tracer and 30 rounds of ball ammunition (for control) in a daylight test course. There were no significant differences in hit probability associated with ammunition type or technique of firing tracer. There was a significant difference in performance by a small group of combat veterans (Vietnam returnees) who had slipped into the subject pool. (Author)
