Effect of Loading Rate on the Stress-Strain Characteristics of a Clay Shale in Unconsolidated-Undrained Triaxial Compression.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the magnitude of the influence of loading rate on the stress-strain and strength properties of a clay shale in unconsolidated-undrained triaxial compression tests at constant confining pressures up to 4000 psi. The scope of the study included the performance of two series of unconsolidated-undrained triaxial compression tests on Pierre clay shale specimens under static and dynamic times to loading and the analysis of the resulting test data.
