Study of the Characteristics of the Holographic Stereomodel for Application in Mensuration and Mapping. Part I.

Abstract

Photogrammetric analysis of preparation and recording of the holographic stereomodel shows that either independent relative orientation or a modified double rectification operation results in a stereomodel with component images which have equal principal distances. Analysis of distortions due to reconstruction reference beam geometry errors, for both holograms of directly recorded objects and holographic stereomodels, shows that the reconstruction beam geometry error budget is more limited than formerly believed. The mensuration investigation shows that a single dot system does not yield acceptable accuracy. Mathematical analysis and experimental data confirm this contention. A double dot mensuration system is proposed to attain suitable accuracy. An experiment to compare the measurement potential of a holographic stereomodel to other established techniques is described and analyzed. Statistical analysis of the results of that experiment indicates no differences in the accuracy attained between any of the methods considered. (Author)
