Toward A Comprehensive System of Leadership Utilization.

Abstract

The contingency model permits a conceptual integration of such divergent approaches to leadership development as selection, rotation, training, and 'benign neglect (that is, experience and on-the-job)' as a means of improving organizational performance. This integration is already in part supported by recent empirical findings and provides a potentially rich source of hypotheses for further research in this area. Relevant research findings are reviewed and implications for management development are discussed. (Author)
