Estimation of Stationary and Non-Stationary Ocean Wave Spectra.

Abstract

In a brief descriptive form, the estimation of non-stationary and stationary spectra from a sample of ocean wave record is presented. The estimation is based on a filter method developed through a smooth generalization of the classical stationary spectral theory. The filter method enables one to interpret the non-stationary spectrum concept and its estimation physically in terms of known concepts in system response in time and frequency domains. A number of practical computation details, a flow chart and computer programs are given. The computer program with the subroutine entitled power can easily be used for non-stationary and stationary spectral analysis of ocean wave data. This illustrated by a realistic application, and some characteristic results are presented. (Modified author abstract)
