Thermally Stable Fluoropolymers.

Abstract

The preparation of new thermally and chemically stable perfluorinated ethers and thioethers was investigated. Two different polymeric systems were investigated. These were the perfluorocycloalkyl ethers and the perfluorocycloalkyl thioethers. New procedures were developed for preparing the perfluorocycloaliphatic ethers. A new difunctional ketone was prepared which showed good reactivity with perfluorinated olefins in polymer preparation. This polymer, prepared in small quantities, was an oil whose analyses indicated probable expected structure. The high reactivity of the perfluorocyclobutyl structure toward sulfur nucleophiles appears to preclude any useful polymer formation. (Author-PL)
