Attack I: Attack Pattern Generator: The Weapon Assignment System.

Abstract

The selection of attack patterns for use in OP damage assessment studies must be based on realistic assumptions and objectives. The need for a computer program to simulate the attack designer in the development of national attack patterns has long been considered essential. The Attack I program is specifically designed to generate, for analytical studies, hypothetical attack patterns against the United States of America. The patterns are based on the desirability of the targets and the estimated capabilities and strategic objectives of a potential enemy. Weapons are assigned to a preselected target list according to the probability of the selected weapon destroying the designated target and the probability of the target surviving previously assigned weapons. The strategic objective and estimated capabilities of the potential enemy and the priority, hardness, and attractiveness of the targets are also considered in the development of an attack pattern.
