Charts and Formulas for Estimating Velocity Fields in Incompressible Flow,

Abstract

The report is a compilation of information which should be useful for the estimation of both total velocity and velocity components at points in the field near bodies of various shapes including aircraft. Included are a brief review of the current state of the art, presentation of formulas for the simplest two-dimensional and axially-symmetric flows, formulas for flows about the ellipsoid family, and methods for handling three-dimensional flows. A large new set of flow-field charts for eleven different two-dimensional and nine different axially-symmetric shapes is presented. Procedures are illustrated for combining these basic flows to estimate the approximate flow about any body. (Author)
