Correlation of Newsmagazine Attitudes and Senate Voting on Measures to Curtail US Military Operations in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

The study investigates the impact of weekly newsmagazines upon the attitudes of Senators concerning the Cooper-Church ammendment to the Foreign Military Sales Act of 1970 and the Hatfield-McGovern amendment to the Fiscal Year 1971 Defense Authorization Bill. The positions of three newsmagazines, 'Time,' 'Newsweek,' and 'US News and World Report,' were determined using content analysis techniques. These newsmagazine positions were then compared with the voting records of Senators. (Modified author abstract)
