A Case for a Standardized Readiness Test for Land Combat Units.

Abstract

Reporting readiness of land combat units, both for Active Army and for the mobilization of Reserve Component units, based on their purported readiness status has been and still remains a very subjective exercise. The lack of a Standardized Readiness Test is a critical weakness of the unit evaluation system and contributes to unreliable subjective reports to higher headquaters. A Standardized Readiness Test should be developed and used as a common denominator for objective evaluation of all land combat units. Variables assigned to units lacking uniformity must be definable, measurable, accounted for, and reflected in the composite test results. Greater attention must be paid to both establishing and maintaining the unit base relative to organization and structure within a One Army concept. (Modified author abstract)
