Implications of the Nixon Doctrine on the Military Use of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (TTPI).

Abstract

The thesis advanced is that US military planners should pay increased attention to the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands as a result of what President Nixon has described as US strategy in the 70's. Supporting this contention is an examination of what President Nixon has announced as elements of his 'Doctrine' for the 70's followed by an exposition of the TTPI's unique capabilities to support many of these elements. These capabilities result from the TTPI's mid-Pacific location, its inherent ability to provide wide dispersion of activities and storage areas, and its unique current social and political status.
