The Kinetic Energy Balance of the Florida Straits in a Vertical Section Between Miami and Bimini.

Abstract

Using profiling current meter (PCM) data obtained by Duing (1973) in the Florida Straits during project Synops '71, part of the expression for the kinetic energy exchange rate was evaluated. The principal results were that the significant kinetic energy exchange takes place in the upper 250 meters, and that it constitutes a restructuring of mean flow kinetic energy rather than a net local exchange with the fluctuations.
