Abstract

ED FILTERS, Charge transfer, Spread spectrum, Communication and radio systems, Digital systems, Single sideband communications, Low pass filters, Band pass filters, Delay lines, Analog systems, Telephone lines, Signal processingCharge coupled devices, Bucket brigade devices, M-ary transmissionThe analyses presented in this report apply equally to charge coupled devices (CCDs) and bucket brigade devices (BBDs), the two categories of CTDs. Both CCDs and BBDs are examined and compared with competing technologies. The primary emphasis in this program was placed on the potential of these devices for low data rate, spread-spectrum, matched filtering. However, in addition, consideration was also given to other applications such as low-pass and band-pass filtering, analog delay, telephone line equalization, and single sideband modulation. Theoretical analysis is given of limitations, behavior, and tradeoffs among CTD parameters of interest, and noteworthy general characteristics of the technology are discussed.
