The Philippine Constabulary as a Counterinsurgency Force, 1948-1954

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to determine if the Philippine Constabulary was an effective counterinsurgency force and if this Philippine experience produced 'lessons learned' appropriate for inclusion in US Army roles, missions, or doctrine. To place the Constabulary in proper context, consideration was also given to the Communist insurgents, other government forces, and external support provided the opposing forces. The evidence indicates that the Constabulary was an effective counterinsurgency force, however, success came only after political, social, and economic operations were combined with military operations.
