Spectroscopy of Metal Oxides.

Abstract

The report discusses infrared studies of the seeding of one atmosphere cyanogen/oxygen flames with uranium hexafluoride. A single feature at 800/cm was observed, and shown to be due to either UO3, UO2 or UO. The value of the absolute band intensity was found. A flow reactor characterized by fast flow, rapid mixing and long optical pathlengths, was employed to study the oxidation kinetics of trimethyl aluminum (TMA). The usefulness of aluminum grenade releases for kinetic studies is explored. The intensity history of the continuum is discussed. Chemical kinetic models can be verified at times later than 15 seconds for altitudes above 120Km. A computer model for this purpose has been established and tested. (Modified author abstract)
