Abstract

PROBLEMS. Held at Ocean City, Md., on 3-5 Oct 72.Monograph series.AMMRC-MS-73-2DA-1-T-061102-B-33-ASee also AD-675 463.*Ballistics, *Mechanics, *Symposia, *Advanced weapons, Materials, Army research, Systems engineering, Dynamics, Structural properties, Penetration, Fragmentation, Gun barrels, Ammunition, Fracture(Mechanics), Spallation, VulnerabilitySolid mechanicsThe importance of the preheating and prestressing effects on the dynamic response of structures is demonstrated for the case of flat, rectangular clamped plates. Both analytical and experimental methods are used to analyze the plate. The analytical study employs finite-difference techniques while the experimental method makes use of an exploding foil loading device and a reflective Moire' optical technique to determine the transverse deflections of the plate. Results obtained demonstrate that the preloads are very important and should be accounted for in dynamic response studies. (Author, modified-PL)
