Particle Dispersion Studies

Abstract

The objective of this program was to develop to a routine procedure the capability for using a perfluorinated surfactant as an agent in bringing about the dispersion of agglomerated or conglomerated particles smaller than 5 micrometers in size. The dispersion would be of such a nature as to allow subsequent analytical measurements to be made on the separated particles. The process includes dispersion by a fluorinated surfactant, Krytox 157, in a fluorinated liquid, Freon E-3, ultrafiltration, washing with two other Freons, and drying.
