Acoustic Signatures Accompanying Low-Velocity Water Entry

Abstract

Solid metal spheres, simple missile-like shapes, and a bowling ball were dropped from varying heights below 4m into a water-filled anechoic tank and the resulting acoustic signatures were recorded and analyzed. In addition the hydrodynamics of the drops were recorded on movie film for correlation with the acoustic signature.
