Noise Reduction Techniques for Mounting Two 18K BTUH Air Conditioner Units on the S-280 Shelter.

Abstract

T, Shelters, Noise, Human factors engineering, Mountings, Control, Noise(Sound)The objective for this noise study was to determine if the NC-55 noise level curve could be obtained in an S-280 Shelter, with two 18K BTUH air conditioner units during high mode of operation. Considerable data were acquired from testing the most feasible means for mounting the air conditioner units and the most effective ducting envelope within the space limitations of the shelter. After evaluating a number of duct configurations using various types of noise attenuation materials, the ultimate design and composition concept was determined and tested. Noise levels within the shelter with all noise and vibration control treatment installed meets the original design objective (NC-55) in all but the 125 Hz and the 250 Hz octave bands. (Author)
