Effect of Texture on the Creep and Stress Rupture Properties of Titanium 4Al-4V.
Abstract
Stresses, Fracture(Mechanics), Aluminum alloys, Vanadium alloys, Dislocations, Orientation(Direction)Titanium alloy 4Al 4VCreep and stress rupture tests were conducted on a textured 4Al-4V titanium alloy. Results indicate a significant difference in these properties with specimen orientation. Greater creep rates are observed in the longitudinally oriented specimens then in the transversely oriented specimens with superior rupture life for transversely oriented specimens. Specimens having a transverse orientation appear to follow the conventional power law for stress dependence of creep where dislocation climb is rate controlling; specimens having a longitudinal orientation appear to follow a stress dependence behavior indicating that dislocation glide may be rate controlling as in alpha zirconium.
