Engineering Design and Working Plans for a Set of Ramps to Connect an Elevated De Long Pier to a Navy Pontoon Causeway and Causeway to the Beach.

Abstract

The report covers the engineering studies and design of the ramps, platforms and roadways associated with the operation of two P + H 6250 TC 250-ton cranes and one Manitowoc 4000W crane on two De Long BPLs and the beach at Fort Story during the forthcoming OSDOC 2 exercises. One BPL will be floating with a P + H 6250 TC crane on board serving as a Container Discharge Facility. The other will be elevated with a Manitowoc 4000W crane transferring containers from lighterage to tractor-trailers. One P + H 6250 TC crane will be operating on a roadway on the beach unloading lighterage to tractor-trailers. The ramps will be used to interconnect the elevated BPL, the pontoon causeway and the beach, permitting tractor-trailers to traverse the distance of about 500 ft from the BPL to the beach.
