Polyhedral Expansion of Metallocarboranes.

Abstract

New metallocarboranes of general formula (C5H5)2Co2C2BnH(n+2) and (C5H5)3Co3C2BnH(n+2) can be directly prepared by the reduction of the closo monometallodeca-, undeca-, and dodecaboranes with Na in the presence of naphthalene followed by addition of CoCl2 and NaC5H5. The preparation, characterization and proposed structures of these metallocarboranes are discussed. (Modified author abstract)
