Description of a Program for the Analysis and Optimal Design of Mechanical Systems,

Abstract

The report contains descriptions of equation formulation and numerical solution methods used in a mechanical system design program. Use of the program is also described and illustrated. This program will perform both large- and small-displacement static and dynamic analysis of mechanical systems that can be modeled as an interconnection of three-dimensional linkages, springs, and dampers. It also has an optimization capability that permits automatic adjustment of mechanical system design parameters to achieve prescribed modal characteristics. (Author)
