Evaluation of Runway Skid-Resistance Characteristics at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.

Abstract

Data gathered during a joint Air Force Civil Engineering Center (AFCEC) and Air Force Weapons Laboratory (AFWL) standard skid-resistance test conducted at MacDill AFB, Florida, on 30 June 1973 are analyzed. The test results indicate the runway surface had good skid-resistance properties. Rubber removal in the primary runway touchdown area should be programmed. The secondary runway touchdown area has a moderate rubber buildup and could, depending on traffic volume, reach a condition where the rubber needs to be removed. (Author)
