The Ibo Society Today: The Key to Nigeria Tomorrow.
Abstract
The Ibo tribe of Nigeria, which is the third largest in the country, seceded from the central government in May 1967, and declared itself the Republic of Biafra. A thirty month war ensured with Nigeria emerging victorious. The future of Nigeria depends heavily on the attitudes toward reunification of the Ibos as well as on the ability of the central government to rehabilitate the war torn regions and restructure a central government acceptable to all. Data were gathered from books dealing with the history of Nigeria and the Ibo tribe and from articles in periodicals and newspapers within the past two years which dealt with the war, the peoples and their problems and attitudes.
