Sequential Cell Deletion in Contingency Tables.

Abstract

A statistic is suggested for recognizing cells which do not fit a log-linear model for contingency tables. It is used to sequentially delete cells in several two-way tables. The method is easily extended to multi-way tables, and seems to be effective in recognizing outliers independently of the cell count, giving a good log-linear fit to a set of remaining cells which make up a larger proportion of the original cell count. The relationship between this statistic and a corresponding likelihood ratio test is derived. (Author)
