Some Consideration in the Development of a Physicians' Assistant Program in the U. S. Army

Abstract

The purpose of the report is to examine some aspects of the national and the Army's need for and programs to develop a new type of health care delivery assistant--referred to generally as the physician's assistant. The Army's program is tentatively scheduled to begin in early 1972 with a class of 60 students. The projected title for the graduate of the Army program is 'Military Medical Associate (Physicians' Assistant)'--MOS not as yet determined. This report identifies certain problems in the utilization of the PA, and conclusions and recommendations are presented relative to these problems.
