Study of the Status of Arbovirus Infections in the Solomon Islands (A Survey for Evidence of Arbovirus Infections and of Certain Other Infections in the British Solomon Islands Protectorate).
Abstract
A serological survey of 659 human sera from the British Solomon Islands Protectorate using 11 antigens representing groups A, B and Bunyamwera arboviruses failed to reveal any evidence of infection. No arboviruses were isolated from mosquitoes, bird bloods or rat organs. Suggestive evidence of a mite-borne rickettsiosis has been obtained. This may be widespread in the group. The carrier rate for hepatitis B antigen is very high, particularly among children. (Author)
