Repetitive Series Interrupter.

Abstract

F THE Interrupter and the magnetic modulator employing the Interrupter. The operating models are to be able to interrupt 400 amperes at 15 kilovolts. They are to provide control of 0.8 ampere direct current. The maximum required magnetic field is to be 15 kilogauss. The design approach is an extension of hydrogen thyratron techniques. Device design, test circuit design, and construction were performed during this period. Five interrupter models were built during the period. These tests show that the power loss during the continuous current carrying phase of the operation is more than desired. A reduction in the direct current power losses of the device will be necessary before extended life tests of interrupted current are undertaken. (Modified author abstract)
