Synopsis of Tests Demonstrating Improvements in 175mm Forgings.

Abstract

Contributing to the improved quality of the 175mm gun tubes have been (a) elimination of chrome-plating of exceptionally high strength 175mm M113 material, (b) reduction of yield strength to effect significantly higher toughness, (c)improving quality of forgings by Industry in reponse to markedly increased specification requirements, (d) design of a lower strength autofrettaged gun using forgings of improved quality.
