Report of the 12th Parallel Survey.

Abstract

Preparation of this report was prompted by the interest of the United States and cooperating countries in making available to the participating nations a history of this most important project. The Third United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference for Africa which was held at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in November-December 1972, supported this endeavor. At this conference the members recommended additional geodetic activities in Africa, by African countries and with cooperation of countries outside Africa. Although this report does not contain positional information, it does address a number of aspects of the 12th Parallel Survey Project and it is hoped that it will contribute to further the interest in geodetic progress in Africa.
