Simple Electrochemical Circuits for Large Scale Real Time Information Processing.

Abstract

Investigations of possible techniques for implementing large parallel arrays of image processing elements were performed. Electrochemical approaches were first investigated and based upon analysis of reports were found to be feasible for implementing functions involving signal (image) amplification. However, no reasonable approach to the problem of forming large numbers of complex interconnections was uncovered. Experimental and theoretical investigations of electron-optical implementations of parallel arrays were also performed. With this implementation, interconnections can be readily made and parallel or serial amplification performed. Laboratory experiments documenting problems with resolution, uniformity, defects, etc. were performed and the results are presented in this report. (Author)
