Experimental Study of the Allergenic Action of Ortho- and Para-Nitrochlorobenzene,

Abstract

Various compounds of benzene are included among wide-spread atmospheric contaminants. The compounds ortho-nitrochlorobenzene (ONCB) and para-nitrochlorobenzene (PNCB) can be found in the air over populated places in contents which exceed the permissible standard. It should be noted that the discharges from production of nitrochlorobenzene usually contain a complex of its isomers. During industrial preparation of ONCB and PNCB the compound 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (2, 4-DNCB) is formed as a by-product. It is known that 2,4-DNCB possesses sharply expressed allergenic properties. Results of tests on the sensitization of animals to this compound are reported.
